Sunday was the last weekend practice match before the big day, it was also one of the coldest days I have ever fished, a biting North Easterly made it a real struggle to keep your concentration and catch something.
Gold has been very patchy with the recent cold weather and today was no exception, I hope it warms up before Saturday.
I drew the far end of Gold lake, probably the worst section in the match, so I wasnt expecting to go home with the £900 brown envelope, but team matches are won and lost on the bad pegs not the good ones so it was an ideal practice day.
My team captain wouldnt be too happy if I gave away my tactics, but its safe to say that in the areas where there arent many carp, bream and skimmers will be important, so I fished for them for most of the match and caught 32lb of them to win the silvers pool and my section.
The usual pegs did the business with the carp weights and 102lb won on the day, followed up by two 70lb+ weights. Most sections were won with carp and whichever team wins on saturday will need to be lucky with the drawbag.
