The first thursday evening match of the new year was a real struggle, the recent heavy rain had made the docks 'chocolate', and those who mixed their groundbait with the water complained of it being 'freezing'.

This weeks match was the first to be fished at the Thekla and police launch stretches, Dave Carroll was the easy winner with 4 skimmers and some roach for 6lb 10ozs, all caught on the pole with maggot and groundbait, second was John Macey with 4lbs 10ozs, consisting of 1 bream and 1 skimmer, 3rd was Merv Sivell with 3lb 8oz which was 1 bream and some roach. Dave Shore was 4th with 1lb 0oz, 2 skimmers and Dave Clutterbuck was 5th with 1 skimmer for 12ozs, 6th and the only other person to catch was Pete Sivell with 9ozs, all the other 6 anglers blanked, but lets not forget it is January and this time last year the docks was frozen over.
