On Tuesday I did a feature for Total Coarse Fishing at Shiplate Farm, nr Weston Super Mare. The object of the feature was to catch some of the large bream that inhabit this lake, the lake record is 11lb+ and a recent catch included 13 fish for just over 100lb, lots of potential for a really good feature.

Sadly conditions were not ideal for the bream to feed, ideal conditions would have been a strong south westerly, grey cloud with a chance of rain. With all the rain we have had recently, I must have picked the only dry and bright day for the last month, nice conditions to fish in, but not ideal for bream to feed, these features are organised months in advance and you have to be lucky with the weather.

Shiplate farm has a large head of carp in it, up to 30lb, yet it is not dominated by pellets and boilies, the best way to catch these bream is with an open end feeder with chopped worm and caster, a more traditional approach.

Despite the far from ideal conditions, I still managed to catch 8 big bream up to 7lb plus a few carp and a load of skimmers, what would it be like on a good day??

The feature will be appearing in next months edition of Total Coarse Fishing magazine
