First Impressions
At the Fox HQ we saw the first of these reels, without getting to test them at the time.The next thing was to get a feel of them. Everything seemed to be fine, even the way the reel felt in the hand, and how the mechanisms sounded.
The reels looked great, and the options of a shallow,intermediate and deep spool was a real bonus.Not knowing any other reel with a bale arm lock, i thought this was a great selling point.
And lets be honest,a brilliant safety feature. Many anglers i speak to always speak about the amount of 'bling' incorporated in a lot of todays carp reels. The somewhat subdued look of the 12000's smack of functionality, and imparts a serious intent. In short, it didnt look like a bauble on a christmas tree!!
One of the over-riding features is the weight of these reels.Its heavy enough to feel robust, but light enough to bring great balance to any set up.

I am fortunate at the moment to be fishing a lake that requires very long range fishing. Being an old sand pit, it is also a brutal environment for any fishing tackle.After re-distributing the wealth a little, i ended up with three of each model.
A day was spent casting, and generally getting a feel for the reels.Without a doubt both models put meters on my casting.And with the aid of a laser range finder, the longest i achieved with a baited rig was 201 meters.
I have never tried so hard to break something, but they survived the long month torture. In that time, i reached distances 30 meters in excess of those i could previously achieve. Having the ability to get to otherwised unfished areas is a great advantage, and as a different consequence i caught 12 carp in excess of 30lb (i have added a further seven since),and two carp over 40lb.
The whole experience was made so much better because of a reel that not only looks the dogs watsits, but because ('it does what it says on the tin')
