Sunday 18th there is a Xmas Open on the River Parrett at Langport, I hear its fishing well, the last match saw 5 weights over 7kgs all roach.
At this time of the year lots of roach move up into the town stretch and the fishing is excellent, you normally need around 15lb to win the matches and pleasure fishing 25-30lb is on the cards if you are sat in the best pegs. The water level normally drops at this time of the year, combined with the weed dying off and the clear water the roach shoal tightly in the town stretch where they feel safer from cormorants, this leads to the best roach fishing of the year.
So if you fancy a lovely net of redfins and the chance to win a bottle or two, you can book in at the Viaduct fishery 01458 274022

This is the town bridge at Langport, some of the best roach pegs are just below the bridge, its time to dust off my long whips and sort the rigs
