Bitterwell Lake is located in Coalpit Heath approximately 10 miles from Bristol City centre. The three acre lake is home to a high stock of carp, roach, perch, rudd and bream which can make a very enjoyable day on the bank. This lake is suited for float and feeder fishing. Fishmeal Groundbaits, Micro Pellets, Corn, Maggots and Worms fish really well. Bitterwell also has a Tuck and Tackle shop where you can buy bait, fishing tackle, refreshments and coaching sessions!

Fishery Rules

General Lake Rules:

  • No fires or BBQ's
  • Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times.
  • Please keep the pathways clear.
  • Children under 16 to be accompanied by an adult unless prior permission is granted by the fishery manager.
  • No Anti social behaviour.
  • Anyone who wishes to fish must purchase a day ticket.
  • Day tickets are collected from your peg. You do not need to pre book unless you are Night Fishing. To book night fishing contact the fishery manager.
  • All fish to be returned to the water alive and well.

Rigs and Tackle Rules:

  • Maximum of 2 rods per angler.
  • No surface fishing.

Bait Rules:

Fish Care Rules:

  • Unhooking mats must be used when unhooking fish on the ground. (mat hire costs £2).  Coats, towels, cushions, carrier bags etc are NOT unhooking mats.
  • No standing up with fish.
  • Do not use towels or rags to hold fish.
  • Please return netted fish to the water in your landing net.
  • Do not leave rods unattended.
  • When weighing or photographing fish please have all necessary items ready and do not leave the fish unattended for any period of time. Return the fish to the water as soon as possible.

Anglers who break the rules may be asked to leave without a refund.

Windmill Fishery is located in Westerleigh about 10 miles out of the city centre and features 4 lakes. There'a a match lake,  "Billy's Pool", a small carp lake and a big carp lake. All lakes are well stocked with carp with the big carp lake having very little silver fish or other species present. The match lake, "Billy's Pool" and the small carp lake have a strong stock of silver fish as well as a big number of carp.

Bagwood is located in Almondsbury roughly 10 minutes from Bristol City Centre. The lake is split into 2 lakes which the fish can travel between the two via pipes. The lake boasts a large stock of fish over 20lb with plenty of upper doubles also. There are plenty of silver fish in the lake aslo which includes some big bream.

Lake Rules

  •  This is a private lake you may only proceed to the lake after you purchase a ticket.
  • You must purchase a ticket in the Professional Shop or Clubhouse before you set up and start to fish.
  • Bagwood Lake is patrolled and monitored to ensure all fishers are in possession of a correctly dated fishing ticket, anyone caught without a ticket may be asked to pay a fine, prosecuted or told to leave the lake.
  • Bagwood Lake is open 7 Days a week.
  • For security reasons the Woodlands Car Park will be locked at Night.

Venue Description

Acorn is home to two lakes. The specimen carp lake is approximately 3.5 acres and is a 16 peg venue. It has a combination of smaller islands and a larger main island, which allows plenty of features and margins to fish to. The lake is clay bottomed with bars/ shelves and open flat areas, all easily accessible.  The fish stock is now currently over 400+ stunning Carp, with fish size ranging from approx 15lb to 38lb+ in weight and well over half of them are mid to upper 20's and 30's. The lake is usually netted each year to remove any of the smaller carp or fry, of which are collected and stocked into our smaller stock ponds.

The "The Paddock" lake  is a 40 peg venue for matches and pleasure fishing with a stock of carp, roach, bream and rudd.

Plantations is home to three lakes being the Main Lake, the Specimen Carp Lake and the Jubilee Lake. The main lake is a mature lake over 2.5 acres in size. The lake features two islands in the middle with dephts at an averyage of 5ft. The lake has 38 swims to choose from giving you plenty of space to fish. The bottom consits of hard clean clay around the margins and islands with clay and silt in the middle. There is a varied stock for anglers to target, with a healthy stock of Roach, Rudd, Bream, Tench, Perch and Carp up to over 20lb. Proven tactics are pole fishing/ waggler fishing/feeder fishing and float fishing to margins or islands. This lake is day fishing only.

The Specimen Carp Lake is roughly 1 acre in size. The lake has a small central island in the middle with 15 swims to choose from. The bottom consits of hard clean clay around the margins and islands with clay and silt in the middleThe lake is home to carp only with a rough stock of 65 - 70 fish at a rough rate of 12lb - 28blb. Solid bag tactics work brilliantly on this venue as well as margin fishing! The lake is open for day and night fishing, only 7 anglers are allowed to night fish so this gives you plenty of room! You must book for night fishing via Catch or call Plantations.

The Jubillee lake is situated seperately from the other 2 lakes on site. This lake benefits from easy access which allows anglers to park next to their swim. The lake has 25 swims with only 18 anglers allowed to fish it at any time. The lake consists of a hard clay base around the margins and main island, with a mixture of both clay and silt in the middle. The lake is roughly 1.75 acres in size with an average depth of 6ft as well as an islands which runs through the middle of the lake. The lake has a cracking mixed stock of fish, pleasure anglers will regularly target the Roach, Rudd, Bream, Tench, and perch and for those wanting a spirited battle the carp go up to 18lb. Proven tactics are Margin fishing, feeder fishing and typical ledgering tactics, in the summer months the most productive bait is to utilise pellet and corn for good results. The lakke is Open daily for pleasure fishing, you can book 24, 36 and 48-hour sessions and is bookable for matches on request. The lake is open for day and night fishing, only 7 anglers are allowed to night fish so this gives you plenty of room! You must book for night fishing via Catch or call Plantations.

  • We are happy for guests to join you on the bank. However the bank is not a place for a party or social gathering and you may be asked to disperse and all guests to leave if found to upset other patrons. We have an outdoor separate gathering space that can be hired on an hourly basis if needed.
  • Please keep any music to a minimum and you will be asked to switch it off if it is to disruptive.
  • Only free standing BBQ’s are allowed. No disposable BBQ’s. We reserve the right to ask you to extinguish your BBQ’s if it is causing a hazard. Through dry periods we do not allow BBQ’s at all. Gas burners are preferred. Do not through hot coals anywhere on the lake site or bins.

Ham Green lakes is set on some stunning land in Phil just outside of Portishead. Featuring two lakes the bottom lake is a 1.5 acre rectangular lake with the largest carp being just over 28lb. There are approximately 50 carp in the bottom lake all of which are stunning fish as well as some bream, tench and roach.
The Top lake of Ham Green is a heaven for every pleasure angler. The lake is very historic and does not feel man made making a pleasurable day. Crucians over 2lb have been caught at this lake as well as 8lb tench and a 20lb pike!

  • JUNIOR UNDER 10 YEARS CAN FISH FREE OF CHARGE WITH A PAYING ADUL

Rules

  • Fish during the day and only in the open season, which runs from 16 June to 14 March each year

The Hunstrete complex is home to three lakes - 1 being a pleasure lake, 1 being a match lake and 1 being the big carp lake. The main lake holds carp to 36lbs plus and holds a really good stock of twenties. Plenty of big fish to accommodate the big fish angler. The lake is just short of 5 acres and features 41 swims to choose from.

The pleasure lake known as Withy Pool features carp upto 22lb plus. Carp are the dominant species in this lake and you can have a fun day catching fish consistently. Withy Pool features some colossal perch at above 3lb also. The lake itself is about 3 acres and features 2 islands as well as 40 swims.
The match lake Bridge Pool is home to a heavy stock of fish. Carp to 10lb, Tench to 6lbs, Bream to 7lbs, Roach to 2½lbs, Perch to 2½ lbs, Chub to 4lbs plus. The lake is 2.5 acres and features 34 swims.

Rules

  • Where dip tanks are provided they must be used.
  • A day ticket must be purchased in addition to normal membership from a nominated local tackle shop before fishing any lakes – save and except for silver, gold and life members or a member granted a valid pass.
  • Bailiffs may require a member to discontinue fishing if in the Bailiff’s reasonable opinion, the equipment being used is unsuitable for the fish likely to be caught. Especially so for landing nets/mats.
  • Members must keep to proper paths to access the lakes and not block or partially block footpaths or access or exit points.
  • Members must fish only from the designated platforms on any lake. No bank sticks allowed outside of the peg except in front of the peg in the lake bed.
  • A member may only occupy one peg at any one time. If anglers share a swim or platform a maximum of two rods per swim applies. There is a maximum limit of two anglers per peg except when a senior member has relinquished his two rod maximum to two under 12’s accompanying him or her – or where coaching by authorised BAA. coaches is taking place. see ALL OTHER INFORMATION AND RULES – THE UNDER 12 RULES –
  • No Fly Fishing – fly fishing of any description or type is banned.
  • Hooks – See General Rules and Information and Other Information and Rules but other than pike fishing, unaltered, manufactured MICRO-BARBED or BARBLESS hooks only are to be used.
  • Any form of method feeding allowed must be in conjunction with unaltered tackle products as supplied by the manufacturer and the “Method” style of fishing is banned, unless a free running in-line feeder or a free running in-line lead is used or a bolt rig style or the elastic must pass through the feeder .
  • The use of lead-core in any form and as any part of a fishing set-up is prohibited.
  • No fixed or tether-style feeders are allowed.
  • Bolt rigs and fixed leads are banned, unless the lead is correctly attached to a commercially manufactured quick release safety lead clip, as directed by the manufacturer.
  • The Beach Casting method is not allowed.
  • Bait – See also General Rules and Information.
  • No pre-baiting swims outside of opening hours.
  • All hi-tech carp fishing “Boilie Shooters” [based on paint-ball guns] are banned.

Unhooking Mats and Landing Nets.

  • When present at any fishery, dip tanks must be used as directed.
  • Sharing of unhooking mats or landing nets (unless two anglers are sharing the same peg) is not permitted. If a member wishes to assist on another peg his rods must be wound in and made safe first.
  • Large padded unhooking mats are compulsory for all anglers fishing for carp, barbel and pike and must be wet prior to use. The use of unhooking mats is strongly recommended for all species.
  • The landing net used must be large enough for the species being caught. It is not acceptable for fish over 5lb to be landed in small landing nets or match landing nets.
  • All carp, barbel (rivers only) and pike must be returned to the water immediately EXCEPT when special dispensation has been granted by the Management Committee.
PROVISION: Fish may be retained only in a landing net in the water whilst preparations are made for weighing and/or photographing. Members are expected to apply common sense regarding best welfare of the fish and return them as soon as possible.

Keepnets.

  • Restrictions may vary due to seasonal conditions. No carp in keepnets except in sanctioned matches where specified rules for an event will be in effect.
  • Keepnets must be suitable for purpose and of legal size and dipped where dip tanks are provided

ADDITIONAL RULES FOR THE DAVE CROOKES FISHERY AT HUNSTRETE. (Referred to as TDCFAH)

  • TDCFAH is owned by The Association and is Private Property. Access to the public is only permitted along the public footpaths. Some rules are not applicable to other stillwaters which are leased to The Association.
  • Access is via the timed electric main gate and is controlled by a key pad on entry and the keypad will only work during specified hours and due to this, all vehicles must exit the fishery before the stated closing times.
  • Opening and closing times are posted at the site entrance. The driver of any vehicle locked in when the gates lock shall pay a fee (the amount of which shall be determined from time to time by the committee) to defer the cost of a bailiff or other authorised person attending the fishery and reopening the gates.
  • Until the fee is paid the member responsible shall be suspended from membership of The Association.
  • There is no access to lakes, car parks or surrounding areas outside of the times shown at the main gate.
  • All members must be in possession of their membership cards when attending the complex. Any member not in possession of a current membership card is not allowed onto TDCFAH.  No guests are allowed without written permission.
  • Members intending to fish must have a valid day ticket dated for that day – save and except for silver, gold and life members.
  • Members are advised to always check notice boards at the fishery for possible variations to the rules and bye-laws and availability of lakes. (See also The Association website and Facebook). Read rules on day tickets and membership cards.
  • When dip takes are present, use is compulsory as directed – prior to arriving at the desired peg.
  • Visitors/Carers and Non-members at the DCFAH:
  • Provision is made for non-members (referred to as a guest or guests) to accompany members. Applications for guests must be made in writing to the General Secretary. Email is acceptable, and consent if given, will be confirmed by the General Secretary.  A carer in this context is treated as a guest.
  • Restrictions relating to guests are listed on the consent form and must be adhered to.
  • A maximum of two non-members to be with the member at any time.   See ALL OTHER INFORMATION AND RULES – THE UNDER 12 RULES – Page 14.
  • It is anticipated that parents/carers/non-members may enter the complex to drop off or pick up participants and this will be permitted but otherwise any non-member attending the fishery without appropriate written or agreed permission will be asked to leave as may any accompanying member

Other Rules:

  • Anglers must not obstruct the public footpath (on the dam/north side of Hunstrete Lake) or any road or path within the complex.
  • A toilet is available. Please use it. Suitable for wheelchair/disabled access.
  • Swims or platforms.
  • Members must fish only from the designated platforms on any lake. No bank sticks allowed outside of the peg except in front of the peg in the lake bed.
  • Pegs more suitable and safer for use by disabled anglers are so marked and available on Bridge and Withy Pools and Main Lake.  Disabled anglers will have priority at all times and able-bodied members must move if the peg is required by a disabled angler [provided no other suitable platform for disabled members is available

Costs

You must have a ticket for the Bathampton angling club. The BAA membership year runs from the 1st of January to the 31st December inclusive. Once you have you're BAA ticket you will also need to purchase a day ticket. Both of these are available here at BAC.

Venue Description

The lido is approximately 2 acres in size and situated just off Fishponds road. Approximately 50 carp are at home to the venue as well as tench, crucian carp, pike, bream, roach and rudd. The lake was a quarry pit until the 70s when it then became a public swimming pool. Now the lake is owned by Alcove angling.

Rules

  • The AGM shall be held at 8.00pm on the last Wednesday in January.
  • Proposals for discussion at the AGM, signed by the Proposer and Seconder, must be received in writing by the Secretary no later than 14 days before the date of the AGM.
  • Committee meetings shall be held monthly, at the discretion of the Committee.
  • Membership shall continue from May 1st to April 30th.
  • All members are expected to co-operate in the preservation of wildlife, flora and fauna at Club waters.
  • Junior members of age 16 or under are not allowed on or able to fish any of our waters unless accompanied by an adult member aged 21 years or older. Children under 12 must fish the same swim and use one of the two rods of the accompanying adult or senior member.
  • An Environmental Agency rod licence is required on all Club waters.
  • Members must carry their membership tab and appropriate rod licence with them at all times and produce them for inspection to a Bailiff, Officer of the Club or anyone identifying themselves by production of a current tab.
  • Dogs are only allowed at the Lido and Whitehouse Farm (see 3.3) and must be kept under control and on a short lead at all times.
  • RADIOS, TAPE RECORDERS, DIGITAL MEDIA PLAYERS, GUNS, TINS of any sort, ALCOHOL AND NON-PRESCRIPTION DRUGS ARE BANNED.
  • All members must take their rubbish home.
  • Gates to all waters must be kept locked at all times ESPECIALLY WHEN LEAVING VENUE.
  • All members shall be permitted to fish with 2 rods only from recognised swims on all waters.
  • This means no stalking between swims. When fishing with your lines in the water you must not be more than 10 metres away from your rods.
  • Barbless hooks only allowed.
  • No fixed rigs to be used.
  • No floating bread, Monofilament line only, NO BRAIDED MAIN LINE. Braided hook lengths are permitted.
  • No spodding.
  • Keepnets are permitted all year at the Committee’s discretion. Members are requested not to keep fish in keepnets longer than 6 hours. ALL CARP ARE TO BE RETURNED TO THE WATER IMMEDIATELY; exceptions refer to match rules.
  • All members must use an unhooking mat for fish being unhooked and in contact with the ground.
  • No fish live bait may be used on any lake.
  • Pike up to 6lb in weight may be removed at the angler’s discretion but must be taken from the lake. THE TAKING OF ANY OTHER FISH WILL BE REGARDED AS THEFT AND THE APPROPRIATE ACTION TAKEN. Any unauthorised movement of fish between lakes is strictly prohibited.
  • Members may only enter the fishery 1 hour before sunrise and must have left before 1 hour after sunset.
  • Anglers wishing to fish the Lido at night must book with Darren Scudamore 24 hours in advance by calling 07918 102084 BUT NO LATER THAN 18:30. NO EXCEPTIONS. MEMBERS WHO HAVE BOOKED MUST ADVISE DARREN SCUDAMORE IN ADVANCE IF UNABLE TO FISH. FUTURE BOOKINGS MAY BE REFUSED IF NOT ADVISED.
  • Junior members will be allowed to fish at night fish as long as they are in the company of an Adult/Senior member aged 21 years or older and must fish the same swim.
  • There are 8 swims only at the Lido for bivvies and tents. The swims are marked with a red block. No bivvies or tents in any other swim. Only one bivvy/tent per swim.
  • Members are permitted to fish from one swim for a maximum of 72 hours only, after which they must vacate that swim and move to another. Fishing at night is done entirely at members’ own risk.
  • THIS IS AN URBAN AREA SO PLEASE KEEP NOISE TO A MINIMUM, ESPECIALLY IF ARRIVING AFTER DUSK.
  • Swims must be vacated 1 hour before a match and will be not available to pleasure anglers again until 1 hour after the match has ended.
  • All types of boilies, cereal groundbait and cooked particle baits are allowed subject to a maximum of 1 kilo per angler in any 24 hour session.
  • All nuts are banned. All particle baits must be cooked

To fish this lake you need to join Alcove angling. Their ticket costs £45 per year. To join you'll need to be in their facebook group as this is the only place they put info on regarding this!
